THE VISION
Acorda® Therapeutics wanted to create a user-friendly, valuable mobile resource for people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) to assist and support them in managing the everyday challenges of the disease. Key aspects of the mobile application would include educating users about MS and facilitating conversations between patients and their healthcare providers. We were tasked with presenting the app’s features in a way that provides positive reinforcement to the user to establish a high frequency of usage.
THE RESULT
The award-winning MS self™ mobile application was developed to help people living with MS track their symptoms and activities. By presenting the mobile app’s features in a fun and engaging style, users are encouraged to utilize the app’s journal and self-assessment tools. These daily records help patients better articulate their symptoms and overall progress and provide greater clarity to their healthcare team. Since staying informed is key to more effective disease management, the app includes useful fact cards to help users learn more about MS with easy-to-access information. The app is continually enhanced to further customize the user’s experience. For example, recent updates include weather integration via the app’s journal feature to keep users informed of conditions, such as excessive heat warnings, that may affect their MS symptoms. The app also supports data syncing from the user’s Fitbit® account with the information in their journal entries. These features may present useful details on managing their MS for both the patient and their healthcare team.
